Artificial intelligence is creating new opportunities for public institutions to improve efficiency, strengthen communication, and make information more accessible. Recognising this potential, AMSCO delivered a three-day training program for the Information and Public Communication Committee of Kenya’s Parliamentary Services Commission, under the theme “Transforming Legislative Outreach with Artificial Intelligence.” The program explored how AI can support parliamentary work, political communication, and the internal organization of parliamentary offices.
A key focus was the role of AI in strengthening communication and public engagement. By helping teams process information and prepare content more efficiently, AI can create opportunities for clearer, more accessible communication between parliamentary institutions and the citizens they serve. The discussions highlighted the importance of using these capabilities to support meaningful engagement while preserving the accuracy and integrity of public information.
The program also introduced practical techniques for working effectively with AI tools, emphasising the importance of clear instructions, relevant context, and well-defined expectations. Participants were encouraged to review and refine AI-generated outputs rather than accept the first response, recognising that the quality of the results depends on both the instructions provided and the human judgement applied throughout the process.
Alongside these opportunities, the training underscored the importance of responsible AI adoption. Protecting confidential information, verifying accuracy, using approved tools, and maintaining human oversight were central considerations. The sessions reinforced that AI should complement human expertise, not replace it. Political judgement, democratic accountability, and responsibility for official communications and final decisions must remain with people.
Through this training, AMSCO supported the exploration of practical ways to integrate emerging technologies into parliamentary work while maintaining the standards of responsibility and accountability required of public institutions. As organisations continue to navigate an evolving digital landscape, developing the skills to use AI effectively and responsibly is an important step towards improving efficiency and communication.
