Following the launch of the GROW and RAISE Management Development Programs with Africa Global Logistics (AGL) Zambia, AMSCO continued the leadership development program with further sessions.
The sessions built on the foundations introduced during the first phase of the program, with a continued focus on strengthening managers’ ability to lead people effectively, communicate with their teams, manage different personalities, navigate conflict and adapt their leadership approach to different situations.
GROW cohorts completed Module 1, focusing on the everyday realities of leading people. The sessions explored communication, managing different personalities, navigating conflict, and becoming more intentional in how managers engage with and support their teams.
In September, RAISE Module 2 brought together AGL’s more experienced managers and managers of managers for a deeper exploration of interpersonal effectiveness. The sessions focused on communication, feedback, conflict management, and the importance of adapting one’s leadership approach to different people and situations.
One of the practical tools introduced was the DESC model – Describe, Express, Specify and Consequences- providing managers with a structured approach to difficult conversations and constructive feedback.
Across both programs, the emphasis remains on application rather than theory. Through practical exercises, simulations, discussions and workplace scenarios, participants are encouraged to reflect on their own leadership behaviors and identify what they can do differently when they return to their teams.
The openness, active participation and willingness of AGL’s managers to challenge themselves throughout the journey have been an encouraging part of the program.
As the partnership continues, the next RAISE module is scheduled as part of the wider leadership development program running from 2026 into 2027.
At AMSCO, leadership development is ultimately about more than acquiring new knowledge. It is about turning insight into action, changing behaviors and empowering managers to lead differently.
